Polymerization characteristics of DMPT N,N-Dimethyl-p-toluidine CAS 99-97-8

N,N-dimethyl-p-toluidine can not initiate the polymerization of acrylonitrile (AN) in the dark, but it initiates the polymerization very quickly when exposed to light. Figure 1 shows the photopolymerization of acrylonitrile (AN) in the presence of N,N-dimethyl-p-toluidine, naphthalene, benzophenone (BP)-triethylamine (TEA) and the polymerization in the presence of ABlN. The speeds are respectively 0.157, 0.023, 0.139 and 0.045% points-1, indicating that N,N-dimethyl-p-toluidine is an extremely effective initiator for photopolymerization of acrylonitrile (AN). Any polymerization, without adding a free radical scavenger under the same conditions, a white polyacrylonitrile precipitate appears within two minutes.
