Chemical nature
Trihydrate: Thin and irregular flaky crystals obtained from acetone, with a melting point of 94-102°C; there are also reports of a melting point of 90-92°C. It is very soluble in water, soluble in ethanol, methanol or acetone, but insoluble in ether or benzene. The aqueous solution is alkaline and decomposes slowly.
UV maximum absorption (ethanol): 257, 290nm (ε1200, 13000). Acute toxicity LD50 rat, mouse (mg/kg): 2830, 1870 orally; mouse: >1000 intravenous injection.

Application
A low-molecular-weight sulfide immune enhancer can promote the maturation of T cells, increase the total number of T4 cells and improve the function of natural killer cells, and has a synergistic effect with zidovudine. Used for AIDS.
