Calcium Propionate (CAS 4075-81-4), not only can be use as food additives, but also can be treat as feed additives.In agriculture, it is used to prevent milk fever in cows and as a feed supplement. It is soluble in water,methanol (slightly), insoluble in acetone, and benzene.

Application
In agriculture:
1. it is used, amongst other things, to prevent milk fever in cows and as a feed supplement
2. Propionates prevent microbes from producing the energy they need, like benzoates do. However, unlike benzoates,propionates do not require an acidic environment.

In Food areas:
Calcium propionate is used in bakery products as a mold inhibitor, typically at 0.1-0.4%
